It is the signature look of aesthetic feeds, K-style photography, nursery and lifestyle content — anywhere gentleness is the message.

Airiness brightens and opens up the image, Mute colors pulls saturation down to pastel levels, and Softness adds the delicate glow. Tips for the best pastel look

Pastel effect — FAQ

What makes a photo “pastel”?

Three moves: raised brightness (especially in midtones), reduced saturation so colors sit closer to white, and softened micro-contrast. Together they mimic the palette of pastel chalks — light, powdery and calm.

Will this work on dark photos?

Yes, but raise Airiness first — the pastel look fundamentally needs brightness. A dark photo at high Airiness plus Mute colors converts surprisingly well; a photo that stays dark will read as faded rather than pastel.

Is the pastel effect good for portraits?

It is one of the most flattering effects available: brightening flatters skin, desaturation evens tone, and softness smooths texture, all without plastic-looking retouching.
